There are a lot of jobs are connected to hospitality industry such as working in a hotel. And there are many things you can do in a hotel. This job has a lot of challenges and things are not very glamorous but are still very valuable.

Firstly, we take a view of job are related in hotel industry. As a receptionist, communicating two or more language and using computer are the basic skill. And there are a lot of job that a hotel needs such as housekeeping, cooks and job around the reception desk or lobby for luxury hotels.

A lot of jobs are related in one part. For example: housekeeping jobs comprise room cleaner, people in charge of the floors and monitor activities. Kitchen staff comprise chefs, cooks and of course service. For operations, it required people with degree and experience for the sale departments, management and marketing departments.

A hotel needs person who can use his/her knowledge to help a hotel saving money, saving time and increasing sales because it is all what a hotel wants.

When you are working in a hotel, one thing you need is to be customer oriented. Remember that customer is your king and you are willing to solve any problem, request of the customer. If you can not do something, you should tell the truth to your customer.

Working in the hotel is not easy as the environment is restricted and you often quarrel with employees. Unluckily, in this situation not thing much you can do. To be promoted or maintain your level, you have to make sure that you do your work well and have the qualification needed

In hospitality industry, working in the hotel is the most famous career.  There is a huge range for hotel from places to sleep through to having the best in pampering and spa facilities.

Working in the hotel brings us a wonderful experience. There are always having joyful when a lot of cultures and personalities mixed together. Many jobs are related in a hotel such as chief, cooks, manager…

The hotel trade is the busiest job. But nowadays, it is much easier with internet to find information about a hotel and booking. More advance, there is a website that divided the good from the bad. It can be useful for people who want to apply a job in hotel.
For high class hotel, having good restaurant or the best cuisine available is a good way to enhance hotel’s reputation. So that some managers have paid a lot of money to finest chefs and personalities in the business. And of course the high quality is what everybody wants

My product

My topic of interest is about ‘’How does people working in hotel industry worked’’ so that the best product is to show that how people working in hotel did their job.  There are a lot of parts in the hotel and each part has specific duty. I want to investigate more about responsibility and problem that they faced. So that my final product is a 2000 words report about how people working in hotel industry worked. I think that I will write more detail about the real story, problem which they faced while doing their jobs. It might be the sharing of interesting experience, though that we can gain more the knowledge about their job
My Goals:
3 months: First, I will research about hotel industry. A good research will help me understand roughly about what is the main job of each part in the hotel.  I will research on the Internet, library or new paper.

6 months: I will interview people working in different part of the hotel and video it. As we both know that there are a lot of part in the hotel, i will try to video as much people as i can so that bringing better understand about each job. My goal i set for myself is interview at least 5 people

10 months: finally I will write the report of what I have done so far.

How do I evaluate my product to make sure it is good?

-         About my research: I want to make sure that my research will give me enough information about hotel industry.  It must be clear and provide me good understanding about what I try to do. Therefore it is a foundation for the next goal

-         About my video interview:  This video will be made in holiday time which means that I will stay in my country (Vietnam) so that the language maybe is Vietnamese. So  I will put in the English substitute. I will try to interview people who can speak English well. Maybe I will video the working day job of their people if they accept me to do that.

-         About the report: as a 2000 words report, grammar will be the challenge for me, I will endeavor to write it in proper English and without mistake in spelling.  Hope that I will be interesting

I love traveling so much. I have been a lot of place in Vietnam. I enjoyed the good service of the hotel. And when I was young, I have seen the drama ‘revolving doors of vengeance‘. It about hotel industry and I love it so much. After all this, I asked myself ‘how does people working in the hotel worked’. I want to investigate what is the hardship of working in the hotel, what are the troubles they faced every day. For example, what are they doing in the reception?, how the cleaner work?, what is the range of income for each job. By doing this I hope that I can know what is the hardship they went though and why they love their job. As a result my topic of interest is approached of learning.

Learning is the process of gaining knowledge. It helps us to have better understanding so that we know how to work. The purpose of school is to teach us how to learn. In each subject, it teaches us the skill of working which means that learning is the good way of training people. It is the reason why people graduated university or had high degree have a lot of change for a good job. I believe that knowledge is the key of effective work and knowledge is never enough so it is very important to constantly learn. Learning of what I am interested in helps me get to know myself better. By doing this I want to find out what is my strength and weakness then think about how to complete myself.

How I learnt to create timetable?
The purpose of creating timetable is to manage our time in to proper way so that we can do our things effectively. To create timetable I follow 6 steps below and I will try to stick with it. I need to prepare a presentation for personal project on the last week of September so every day I will spent my time for it.
Step 1: I want to identify how I am spending my time by creating time chart in a day.
Step 2: identify goals.
The list what I want to do:
·        Spent more time to my family
·        Personal project’s presentation
·        Improve my English ( it also means doing personal project)
·        Go to library often
·        More time with breakfast but less time with dinner
·        More time to exercise
Step 3: combine step 1 and 2
Because the spent time for school and sleep can’t modify so that I must change time of another things. I asked myself 2 questions to find out the solution for proper timetable
1.     Looking at the chart, what percentage of my time being spent in areas that are not on my priority list? Housework, travel, relax
2.     Where you spent too much time? Dinner, lunch time
The results:
·        I will take the time for housework combine with dinner so that I having more time on breakfast
·        Every day I talk with my parent thought Skype. I will try to do it when having dinner. Therefore I have more time spent with my family and also less time for dinner
·        I have 1 hour break for lunch at school. it is quite a lot of time spent for lunch so when I finish my lunch I can study English
·        Every day I go to school by walk so I think it consider as exercise
Step 4: make your goals manageable
I make a list-to-do so that I can focus on the most important task. Write down the deadline and the process to do it
For example: - 12th September 2011, I have to submit English’s task for personal project. So that my process is on 10th sept I do the half work and then on 11st I do the rest.
Step 5: make your choice
As we know that, life is full of choices. In one day, we could have dinner with friend, go to a movie, attend a live concert or stage play, read book… but if we do all thing we want in the same day, we won’t have time for the priorities. Therefore, we have to constantly set priority and balance what we want to do in 1 week or month. It means that we choose the right things of what you really want to do and say ‘no’ with the rest choices.
Step 6:
We can’t stick with the timetable all the time because life is unpredictable. Some time you have interruptions when doing, so let is free but in your mind, always focus on the priority.
We can make things up to have more time. For me, I will put the fun into exercise by talking some friends to go.

Topic Of Interest: How does people working in the hotel worked?

Why would you be interested in this topic?
My dream is to work as a hotel manager so that the knowledge about how does people working in the hotel worked is very important. I want to work in the hotel because it is so gratifying to see the smiles on the customers’ face when they feel comfortable with the service. Traveling is one of my passions so that I want to find out what is the good hotel for each place I go though.

What inspired or motivate you?
I want to gain the knowledge about my dream job so I decide to do this topic. The desire of tracing my dream motivated me to do this. There are a lot of luxury hotels in Singapore such as Marina Bay, Fullerton hotel …. Looking at their beautifulness of the architecture or the professional service inspired me also.

What do you think is the difference of learning and doing? How do you know?
Learning helps us to gain the knowledge and doing is to apply the knowledge into work. When we study in school, we learn the skill of working. It means that learning is training you into work. Learning and doing is side by side. This is because when we learning we also doing, when we doing we also doing. For example, you learned how to crawl first then knew how walk. And when you stumbled you know how to walk properly. We can learn from the results as a good lesson. Learning and doing are 2 processes that can’t be separated.

Which AOI are you interested in and why?
AOI 1: approaches to learning. When you good at learning of something, you are in half way of successful in doing. A better understanding is the key of effective work.
